And you know what? They are still the boys&#8217; favorite lovies. It warms my heart when they say things like, &#8220;Mama, you know what my favorite stuffed animal is? Pocket Bear. Because you made him for me!&#8221; Milo says the same thing about &#8220;Funny Bunny.&#8221; It is true that handmade things are more cherished when we understand the work (and love) that goes into making them.<\/p>\n<p>Much to my surprise (and delight) recently, Oliver and Milo both asked to make their own hand-sewn stuffed animals. They accompanied me to the fabric store, where we bought some soft denim fabric, and some extra thread and needles (as I was running low on supplies), as well as a small bag of polyfill for the stuffing and buttons for the eyes. Milo chose to make a wolf. Oliver chose to make an elephant.<br \/>\n<a title=\"DSC_0094\" href=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/692\/22264418956_ddb91f3407_s.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_0094\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/692\/22264418956_bc41f61734_h.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0094\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1062\" \/><\/a><a title=\"DSC_0097\" href=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5655\/22300989031_60f8b11a0b_s.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_0097\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5655\/22300989031_409a77e432_h.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0097\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1143\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I helped them cut out the shapes of their creatures, and showed them how to make simple stitches, and they did the rest!\u00a0<a title=\"DSC_0100\" href=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5774\/22102735478_f49bd29062_s.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_0100\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5774\/22102735478_c32ebde5c0_h.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0100\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1143\" \/><\/a><a title=\"DSC_0104\" href=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5835\/22264426586_7bd3a472b2_s.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_0104\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5835\/22264426586_c5ea19151e_h.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0104\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1077\" \/><\/a><a title=\"DSC_0108\" href=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/628\/22103633879_84635f96f6_s.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_0108\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/628\/22103633879_bb71bc0770_h.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0108\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1143\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They have been buys sewing every chance they get (and calling for occasional help from the other room while I prepare dinner) and are so proud of their work.
