It’s no secret that I love a good coffee shop. And lucky for us, St. Louis is full of them! Recently, a good friend moved to Maplewood, a cute neighborhood 2 miles south of Washington University and Forest Park. Tucked in a block north of Manchester is Stone Spiral Coffee and Curios<\/a>, a down-to-earth, creative, perfect place to gather for coffee or tea with friends.<\/p>\n

The outdoor area is sweet and inviting, like walking into your crazy aunt’s hodgepodge garden — the one you can imagine would be full of little treasures if you looked closely enough. And I mean this in the best way! Some spaces are so carefully manicured, they can lack character. Not this place.<\/p>\n

There’s a little stone spiral maze you (or your children) can walk, which leads to the center garden. I enjoyed looking closely at the fauna here.\u00a0\"DSC_0015\"<\/a>\"DSC_0017\"<\/a>\"DSC_0023\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The character of the place does not end at the front door; step inside for warm wooden tables, benches, and chairs, hundreds of books (they boast a free book exchange — my kind of place!), and plenty of “curios” on shelves and hanging on the walls.

There’s plenty to eat and drink, of course. The menu<\/a> is just the right size; I vowed to try one of the sandwiches next time I come (maybe figure out what the “Matt Miller” is?).<\/p>\n

The atmosphere is what really gets me. It is just the right place to come and work, or have a small meeting, or even to read solo. We stayed for hours and felt welcome and not at all rushed. There were plenty of people there, but the space never felt crowded due to the two large rooms and plenty of beautiful natural light. It will be the perfect place to hang out and warm up in the winter!<\/p>\n

There’s plenty to explore; I could look at the walls for hours. Stone Spiral \u00a0also has live music and evening talks and even trivia nights, and they’re open till 10pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays!<\/p>\n
