It has been in my family for who knows how long, so I don&#8217;t know the original source of the recipe. If anyone knows, please leave info in the comments so I can give credit where credit is due. This makes about 24 &#8211; 30 cookies, depending on how big you make &#8217;em, of course!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">1 cup softened butter\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 cups confectioners sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 egg<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp almond extract<\/li>\n<li>2 1\/2 cups all purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp baking soda<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp cream of tartar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Frosting:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">1 stick (1\/2 cup) softened butter<\/span><\/li>\n<li>2 &#8211; 3 cups confectioners sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp vanilla<\/li>\n<li>2 &#8211; 3 Tbsp milk<\/li>\n<li>food coloring (if desired)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.static.flickr.com\/8520\/8466946656_a052d6bf13_b.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 350. For the cookies: mix top 5 ingredients well. Whisk together remaining dry ingredients (flour, soda, and cream of tartar) and add to wet mixture. Form into a ball and refrigerate for 30 minutes, up to two days.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.static.flickr.com\/8382\/8465850513_78ccb7ffc8_b.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0023\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Roll out onto a well-floured surface with rolling pin to about 1\/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes (we did hearts for the kids&#8217; teachers and little people for the classmates) and bake 7-8 minutes on a greased cookie sheet until edges are golden. Allow to cool completely before frosting.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.static.flickr.com\/8241\/8465850947_ee58a8364e_b.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0026\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the frosting: mix all ingredients together well until it reaches the desired texture.
