Dress That Mama: Stripes and Lace

Hooray for fun outfits! Railroad stripes and lace might be a new favorite.

A friend and I headed to Contemporary Art Museum one Wednesday, only to find it closed! But determined minds will find a way. Just around the corner, a side entrance proved to be the perfect backdrop for this outfit: slanted shadows, perfect angles…

This is one of my very favorite outfits for transitioning to fall. This jumper is in the softest cotton and is just the right weight for layering. I’m sure you’ll see it return again and again.

I think the trick to wearing head-to-toe stripes is to add a different, softer pattern, such as the zig-zagged dots and lace of this top. A plain white tee would work too if you’re going for a more boyish look. Also, this one has nice deep pockets for shoving your hands into if you’re feeling self-conscious, ha ha!

    1. Thank you, Noelle! It never stays down long — I’m afraid it’s pretty baby fine and gets stringy if it’s down too long. But for that hour, it worked, ha ha!

  1. I love your clothing choices so much but I was wondering: how do you keep them in good shape with kids? I have a three year old daughter and I’m always a nervous nelly when I wear my ace & jig or other slow fashion brands around her because I’ve saved up for them and can’t afford replacements.

    1. Katie, my kids are a bit older, and no longer wipe their hands on my clothes, so that’s one way. Also, I tend to buy machine-washable stuff, and keep a stain stick handy. That’s it! I want to live in my clothes, not gaze at them hanging in the closet! I think maybe stay away from white while your kids are little!
