While Andrew was out of town last week, I talked about having “a few tricks up my sleeve” with the boys. As much for me as for them, because sometimes when I have all three of them, I get overwhelmed quickly. But if I have a few simple things planned, not only do I have leverage for good behavior, but I actually really look forward to surprising the kids and seeing how they react! Well, one of those tricks was glow stick bath, found here, on a pretty cool blog post about 75 things to do with your kids this summer.
The steps are simple. We picked up a package of 10 glow sticks at Target for super cheap. Then, right before bath time (we waited until it was getting kind of dark), we opened them up and twisted them around to get them to glow. Then, with the lights off, of course, we threw ’em in (the glow sticks and the kids).
That’s it! The boys had so much fun playing in here that after I washed them, I let them stay in until the water was almost cold. No matter, it was a hot day anyway (and today is supposed to reach 110!!!).
Emil really wanted in on the action…
… so of course we obliged!
Ham, normal, ham (or ham sandwich)
The fun was extended a bit before I attempted bedtime.
All in all, a great activity for any season! I actually think we will do this a few times in the winter when it gets dark so early and we will be stuck inside anyway. So, pick up an extra pack to put away for those cold months!
We love doing this at our house too! Whenever we are going on vacation or an overnight stay somewhere, and it is difficult to get into our regular bath routine, I will pack these to make an exciting bath adventure while we are away! The boys are so cute! I’m glad you are enjoying the as much as we do! It is always a hit!!!
Jamie has a bit of an obsession with all things glowing…we love a good glow-stick bath over here! (You’ll witness the glow-stick obsession soon enough…it comes out full force at the beach!!!!)
I love your DIY Thursdays! It will be so fun to try some of these ideas once Gloria is old enough. I read this other blog (Notes from a Mom in Chapel Hill) and they have Thursday Arts & Crafts and I always read yours and then theirs together on my RSS feed on Thursdays! You should check it out — they have some cool ideas: http://mominchapelhill.blogspot.com/2012/06/arts-crafts-thursday-surprise-bags.html
The rest of the blog probably isn’t that interesting to you since its all about Chapel Hill/Durham/Raleigh, but the arts and crafts stuff is fun!
And Mary is right… Jamie is obsessed with all things glow. I hope no one breaks the glow sticks/glow frisbees this time around! Complete party foul!
Ahh! So much fun! I love your ideas – they’re always so simple but so creative!
You are the funnest mom!! I’m not surprised this kept them busy for so long – nice work!
May I just say that hammy smile is the cutest thing I’ve seen all day?
Awesome! I have to remember to do this ’cause it totally takes me back to our days if seeing live music every week (with many a glow stick). I don’t know if Wyatt has even been up close and personal with anything that glows. That smile is too much!
Woo! Tiny bathtub ravers!
I really love this idea. And I don’t know how super planned it was, but turning the glow sticks into a picture frame turned out to be a really cool thing to do too. I now want to create fake picture frames out of a bunch of stuff lying around the house, or sticks in the yard.
