Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner, illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal

We have been hoping and hoping for some snow around here, but so far, only rain (and highs in the 50’s or warmer every day). Nevertheless, the boys opted for a snowy wintery book this week at the library, and I was oohing and ahhing over the illustrations. So simple, but with great bright pops of red and interesting concepts of the unseen life going on underneath the snow on a girl and her father’s snowy ski adventure.

The book is very back-to-nature, describing and romanticizing the experience. Which I like, but it may be a little more suited for 4 and up. But, a good read! Check it out from your local library if you are dreaming of snow that may never come!

P.S.– See? Unless you are living in the Arctic, you really should take off your socks before going to bed! Anyone with me? Sweaty feet gross-out?

Happy Reading!

  1. Socks in bed are . . . the only way I can get to sleep on these dark, 45 degree, NC nights. Seriously. I know that in physical science terms this is an inefficient way to get warm quickly, esp since I share the bed with a large, nearly-naked man, but by the time I get to bed with my ice-cold feet my left brain can’t convince my right brain to take my socks off. Love sleeping in socks. Cute, cute book, too. The art reminds me some of Nikki McClure.

  2. That looks like a great book, we love us some snow and skiing. W had an amazing attention span for giant passages of text so I definitely think he’d be up for it, he calls snow ‘nooo’ which always sounds like he’s throwing a tantrum and is kind of funny ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I know, Adah! I totally wear socks to bed on those cold nights, but I always end up taking them off 10 minutes in… but I think to myself, “I can’t believe I’m wearing socks to bed!” And YES! I love Nikki McClure. I can see the similarities now!

  4. UGH definitely in the socks off club! So glad to learn a little more about this book! I keep an amazon wishlist of books for Gus so when people ask what to get I can just refer them to that and this one is on the list! I may just have to fill that wish myself! ๐Ÿ™‚
