While we were in the Ozarks last week, there were acorns everywhere. The boys started collecting them in a little basket we had brought along on a nature hike, and upon further inspection, we learned that many of them had begun to sprout and take root while resting on top of the rich fertile forest floor.
I began to gently pull up a few and was pleased to find varying stages of development. When we returned to the cabin, I lay them out on the deck in order, and we talked about how great trees start their magnificent lives as tiny acorns. It is also pretty cool to crack one open and see the beginnings of a little leaf. How amazing!
