Spring/Summer Color Palette

DSC_0009This spring, I’ve been very purposeful in my purchase of new clothing. I took a serious look at what I already had and decided to add pieces that were similar in color or tone and can be easily mixed and matched with pre-existing pieces. My color palette for this spring and summer? Cream and sand and a bit of brown…DSC_0011

DSC_0004… along with blues and whites in various shades. Much of what is above was already in my closet. I added a couple of dresses: one tie-dyed white and blue long dress and one cream colored dolman-sleeve short dress. I also added a white shorts romper with buttons up the back that I think I’m going to live in this summer!Β DSC_0002I think having a color palette to fall back on over the next two months will make it so much easier to mix it up while keeping it simple. What colors or tones are you drawn to right now?

  1. Lauren, I love the color palette! So breezy and light. I adore the tie dye dress and the white romper looks so comfy too definitely a piece to live in. Lovely selection indeed πŸ™‚
I think that I may be going through a transition period in style or something lately. I usually wear minimalist shapes and simple prints but now I’m beginning to crave florals of the sudden. Not sure what to make of it.

  2. I say this every time you post, but our styles are like the polar opposites. I’d like to be able to do such a cohesive review. I love all of these pieces, a lot actually, especially the denim shirt and the “gunne sax”-style cream-colored dress, but could I wear them? Maybe not. For one thing they’d be covered in dirt and such the first moment they went on…
This season I am drawn to simpler (for me πŸ˜‰ looks and oddly attracted to pale pink. Maybe it’s all the cherry blossoms of Portland, but pink is a major thing for me right now. I’m also into more formfitting things, against my previous notions and current trends. The only two dresses I bought in Portland, fell along these lines; tight(ish), pastel(y) and short.

Excited to see these wardrobes on ya!

  3. Milla, I know! Ha, ha, it is so great, though. I just adore your style, and I think it suits you perfectly. I will be like the background to you- the sky behind the blooming flower!

I can’t wear pink. It washes me out, so I steer clear. But I can’t wait to see how it looks on you. Variety is the spice of life, right?

  4. Love it! I’m drawn to much the same things, although I have to be careful of a tan too close to my skin tone because it washes me out. But I usually like to add a layer of texture/color on top of neutrals. A bright necklace, a cardigan, fun sandals. And I am totally.obsessed with the geometric trend right now. I’ve thus far managed to limit myself to a couple of necklaces, and that’s a miracle.

  5. Just curious, how does one go to the bathroom in a romper that buttons up the back? Love the blue and white striped dress, but I am loving navy right now.

  6. Love your pieces, and also reading these comments and wondering what colors wash me out! Wish I knew. My favorite color to wear is red, but I do it judiciously πŸ˜‰

  7. Every single piece looks so wearable and classic, but still exciting. I really admire your style and your thoughtful purchasing. I wish I would have a better idea of what the heck it is I’m going for. I might do a better job at buying things I will actually wear. As it is, black jersey dresses are my go to.

  8. Rachel, I really recommend starting a sort of style pinboard to see what you are drawn to. It has helped me immensely with what I want my style to be!

  9. i like your approach to planning a wardrobe a lot!
the color palette is also really nice. maybe i’d feel more serene if i wore colors like that πŸ™‚ alas, beige clothes make me feel… well, too beige.
maybe if i could slap on some of that awesome lipstick like you do, i’d set it off somehow!

this said, i don’t have a super high tolerance for color, but i do like contrast. my standard baseline is black or dark gray: black jeans+black tshirt+purple/yellow sneakers, black jeans+black blundstones+striped pink tunic, black leggings+blundstones+blue dress, etc.

  10. Lovely! I’ve been digging the “basket as purse” thing I’ve seen some ladies sporting. Yours is beautiful! Is it by the same people who make bolga baskets?

  11. Do you have any recommendations for where to find a nice, lightweight robe in some jersey-type blend (cotton/rayon/modal sort of idea) for less than $90? I found one at Anthro but am coming up empty handed otherwise. I live in my junky, pilly, paint-stained Target one in the evening and mornings, and I’d like to get a new one.

  12. Liz, some of my favorite basics come from GapBody- have you checked out their robes?

And I also love Eberjey robes, but they are definitely pricey (though I hear totally worth it):

    Also, just under $80:

    Good luck robe-hunting! πŸ™‚
