Hurray for the Riff Raff- “Black Star”- This New Orleans-based band opened for Shovels and Rope last week at Off Broadway. They were full of energy and such a joy to see live. I have small dreams to go see them in their hometown someday! See the full session here. This one’s for you, Eliza!
Uffie- “Difficult”- for my buddy Georgia, who is newly 4 years old and has all the attitude a feisty young lady should have!
Patrick Watson- “The Great Escape”- I’m obsessed with this song right now. Poor Milo, Oliver, and Emil have been listening to it on repeat all weekend, but they didn’t seem to mind. If you like this song, check out The Cinematic Orchestra- “To Build a Home.” It is just gorgeous, and Patrick Watson is a part of it. Hope you had a great weekend!
I’m so sad that Shovels and Ropes isn’t playing with Hurray For The RiffRaff in Sea next month 🙁 You got me so into them. We are excited to see her though, long time lovers of her tunes.
i love this “column” of yours, but i was particularly excited to hear H4tRR! i like her voice! thanks!
on the vinyl cafe this weekend i heard an awesome little song that i enjoyed, “let’s talk” by hannah georgas. that’s what i have playing into my ears as i polish my thesis… a necessary pick-me-up!
the only show i’d seen in recent memory is a local band, the cave singers. love those guys, and the live shows are awesome (this was my third time seeing them). i love their studio records, but it’s one of those bands that’s so awesome live. it’s not often that you see someone head-banging while playing classical guitar! (look up “seeds of night”, “dancing on our graves”, “vv”… so many to choose from!
their opening band that day was “pollens”. they don’t have much on youtube, but you should check out “your teeth Is honeycomb”!
hope you like!
