Reading…

A God in Ruins, by Kate Atkinson

I just started this one — it’s meant as a companion to Life After Life, which has been so far my favorite of Atkinson’s books. This one takes many of the same characters (and then some) and tells the story of the younger brother of Ursula (the main character in Life After Life), Teddy, who grows up to become a bomber for the RAF in World War II. As usual, I am really enjoying the character development early on. I am especially enjoying the train wreck that is Teddy’s daughter, Viola. Really enjoying this one, and looking forward to reading more about the British perspective of World War II!

  1. I’ve got Life After Life on my library request list – I’m several people down on the list, which is good because I usually only steal some reading time before bed which means I don’t last long.

What I’m reading: When I heard J.K. Rowling on the DRehm show talking about her third book under her pseudonym Robert (Roger? I think Robert) Galbraith, I decided to reserve the first book in the series (The Cuckoo’s Calling). I felt like reading a good private detective novel. It’s really enjoyable. I’m on the list for book 2 and 3, but also, waaaaay down the list.

Brooke – if you read this comment, I meant to tell you too. The characters aren’t exactly Veronica Mars and her dad, but there are many similarities to that series that make the book fun – the temporary secretary who turns out to be pretty helpful as a sidekick investigator. 😉
