DIY Fun: Fall Spice Play Dough & A Blogging Break

DSC_0009

Recently, we ran out of store-bought play dough and I realized that I kind of hated that stuff anyway… so I didn’t buy any more. But play dough in general is a hot commodity around this house; soon after we ran out, I had several little boys asking me for more. I decided to finally try to make our own. Only, I also thought it would be cool to make it smell like fall. You know, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger- rather than, well, play dough. Here is what I came up with!

Fall Spice Play Dough

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup table salt
  • 1 Tbsp oil (I used canola)

Whisk together dry ingredients. Pour into saucepan on stove top, then add water and oil. Whisk together over low heat until well-incorporated. Using a wooden spoon, continue to stir (scraping down the sides of the pan) for a few minutes until the mixture slightly hardens around your spoon. Once it is difficult to stir, remove from heat and allow to cool. And voila! You have some nice-smelling play dough! Feel free to add food coloring (add with the water and oil) if you’d like.

On a different note, I will be taking a much-needed internet/blogging break for the next week. As much as I love blogging, doing it on a daily basis is a lot of work! I’m looking forward to unplugging and spending a lot of time outdoors with all four of my favorite guys. Until next Friday!

  2. Spicey fun! We tried some version of play dough last winter and W loved it. We’ll have to test this out on one of these chilly days.
