This past weekend we tried to pack in plenty of family time as both Andrew and I will be traveling and away from each other for the entirety of this week. Traveling is a big part of academia, and we are definitely used to it, but I find that I really miss him when he is away, so with that in mind we were stuck together like glue this weekend! We had a great time. Saturday was Milo’s circus show, and in an effort to wear out Oliver and Emil before they had to sit in the stands for a good hour straight, we took everyone to the playground first with croissants for breakfast.
There is something so great about playing on the equipment as an adult… I think engaging that way, so playfully and open with your kids, is a great way to bring joy into the day! Plus, I tried out a few of my old trapeze tricks and (taking it slow and easy) figured that in about two more weeks I should be completely ready. I can’t wait to get back into it, really (yes, the hole is finally closed up and the only thing I have to worry about is busting that incision site back open with too much rigor- but I’m being very careful I promise!).
But honestly, how can I manage to keep my body still when I am a part of this family?!! Or in this body, sometimes anxious, only quelled by physical activity?
Milo’s show was really cute. He loves to perform and this time allowed the teachers to draw a mustache on him before he went out (I approve).
Mother’s Day was pleasant (at first) but after a delicious breakfast at the Mud House, we decided to do absolutely nothing because all three boys were just misbehaving soooo badly that we took their cue and realized they were probably run down from such a busy day on Saturday. We tried to be as quiet and still as possible on Sunday and it seemed to help, though the boys still had plenty of bouts of whining, complaining, and just generally being super emotional. But… for dinner Andrew grilled lobster and corn on the cob with a lemon-herb butter that was just to die for. I felt very spoiled!
I hope you had a lovely weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all of you terrific mamas!
We went to the Mud House as well – but not til mid-afternoon for a late lunch. Their menu was different yesterday, and didn’t have my favorite so I’ll have to go back for a fix soon.
Our kids were feisty as well yesterday, but being tired was the culprit for sure. The little one fell asleep mid-book – out like a light.
I loved their menu yesterday- everything we had was just divine! Happy Mother’s Day, Kristin. Glad to hear you are out and about.
You guys make everything look
like such fun, glad you enjoyed Mother’s Day. Hope you’re having an easy week solo!
