Happy Friday

DSC_0022DSC_0013Despite the beautiful weather, it’s been a really crappy week over here. Oliver, Emil, and I all got the flu and just to warn you if you haven’t already had it this winter… it’s a doozy. Poor Oliver was down for the count for 5 days, and I could barely get out of bed for 3 of those. Something about getting knocked down like that for several days in a row is just crazy. I’m finally feeling better just in time for Andrew to travel out of town to visit friends for the weekend. I know he is looking forward to it and after the week we’ve had, boy does he deserve it!

By the way, while I was lying around in bed trying not to think about how rotten I felt, I happened to catch the first episode of American Crime. Have you heard of it? Whoa. It was so intense and gripping, I can’t stop thinking about it. Watch the first episode here. But be warned; it’s not an easy watch. If you have seen it, what did you think? I am totally hooked.

Hope you’ve escaped the nasty illnesses going around and have a lovely weekend!

Oliver, 5 1/2

DSC_0006DSC_0011Oliver, my deep brown-eyed, round-cheeked, snuggly little stubborn-as-a-mule, sweet-as-a-peach middle brother, is 5-and-a-half! His feelings are complicated, he wears his heart on his sleeve, he has mastered the entire world’s countries. The entire world! He is fascinated with maps and art and spaces. He loves a good snuggle. Below, an interview.

How old are you?   Five

What is your favorite thing to do?   Climb. And art!

Favorite game?   Monopoly.

Favorite food?   Ribs.

Who is your best friend?    Well, I don’t really know.

What is your favorite color?    Green! Milo’s same favorite color. And that’s why I got a green balloon. Mine doesn’t really bounce anymore… usually it loses its bounciness.

What do you want to be when you grow up?    It’s one of the questions I already answered— an artist!

What is your favorite animal?    A fox. I like baby foxes.

What is your favorite time of day and why?    I like job time at the end of the day. Just before we get ready to go home. My favorite job is washing tables, my second favorite job is drying them, and my third favorite is putting up chairs.

What is your best memory from this past winter?    We watched movies and bounced on the trampoline in Ohio!

DSC_0022What is the meaning of life?    I don’t know. I have no idea. What does that even mean?

Thank you, Oliver, for your candid answers. We love you to the moon and back!

Dress That Mama

DSC_0004

Every woman should own the perfect little black dress. It should be flattering for her body shape and versatile enough to wear anywhere; dress it down with black fleece thigh highs and flat black boots, dress it up with fancy heels and a nice necklace for a night out.

This is my favorite little black dress. I wore it out to get a drink with girlfriends on Friday night and got a few random compliments! The back is so pretty too — a racerback that looks sleek and modern. DSC_0013Looking for your own little black dress?

Here is one with long sleeves.

A pretty lacy number if your style is more feminine. Or this one if you are feminine and very brave!

The mesh details on the side and neck of this shift dress are so interesting and really dress it up.

If you had a random five hundred dollars lying around, this mini dress is so timeless and flattering. Pricey though.

A flared skirt compliments a smaller waist in this one.

This long black shirtdress by Rodebjer can be worn many ways — it has buttoned openings on the sides and back and can be wrapped and re-buttoned.

And here is the dress I’m wearing above.
